SOARing Eagles Healthcare

The School of Physical Therapy is pleased to announce the development of SOARing Eagles Healthcare at Husson University! The SOAR in SOARing Eagles stands for Student Operated Accessible Rehabilitation. This is a pro bono physical therapy service for Bangor community members who are uninsured or underinsured, and are therefore unable to access rehabilitation services. Developed and run by a student Board of Directors and PT clinic director, Kim Steinbarger, this clinic offers an excellent educational opportunity for Husson’s DPT students. As a result of this clinical project, our fourth-year physical therapy students will be able to experience the clinical setting prior to their regular clinical placements. Our fifth- and sixth-year students will have the chance to practice their clinical and mentoring skills, as well as acquire management and policy experiences. The Husson PT faculty hopes that the students’ introduction to pro bono service will strongly foster their willingness to engage in professional community service after graduation. Future plans for this project include interprofessional involvement of other Husson Schools, such as occupational therapy, nursing, and pharmacy.

SOARing Eagles Healthcare Mission Statement
